Default Pcm Swap?

I have a 2001 XJ and I think the PCM is toast. Sitting in my driveway, I have a scrap 2000 XJ with a perfectly good PCM. Is it a simple swap or do I need to get it programmed by the stealership?

Does the 2001 have the California precats? Might throw a CEL if it does and the 00 doesn't. Also I'm assuming they are both automatic?

No both vehicles are from New York and yes both are automatic. Good to swap?

Is the '00 have CA Emissions?
If so I would try it.

It doesn't matter where they are from for the CA emission equipment but I don't know what I was thinking. The 01 should have these pre cats but the 00 might not.

You should be fine but you wouldn't want to go the other way a 01 pcm into a federal emissions 00
The only thing that gets programed is the vin and mileage.

If the 2001 has SENTRY (factory anti-theft) and the 2000 does not, The 2000 PCM will need programmed. You need a dealer for that. Unless you can swap the receiver on the column, maybe. It reads the key.

So he thinks it might be bad. Has another one sitting there. And it takes 2 minutes to swap. This conversation about the finer points of the PCM took longer than trying it out..
just sayin'.
