Well I tried everything last night to get that elbow off and it wouldn't budge. When I tried removing the rubber grommet it just tore at the point where it meets the valve cover. I think after so many years of freeze/thaw it's permanently stuck to the valve cover. I checked the hoses though and there is alot of vacuum. The ends were pretty gunk'd up so I do believe the gunk is also in the CCV. I don't think it's ever been changed.

Could my oil leak be the gasket where the oil filter elbow meets the block? Or would that count as the temperature sensor.

there is a rubber grommet between the CCV elbow and the valve cover?

if so you dont have a set up like mine, because I have a plastic elbow that turns 90degrees and Im assuming there was a gasket under it at some point in the past.

Yes, theres a rubber grommet. On both elbows. Front and rear. Rear gets vacuum and has the valve. Front gets air from airbox

yea this is how mine is. I removed the front one tho and put in a new grommet and a regular 90 elbow then dumped it down the pass side of the engine and put a little breather filter and one way valve.

'93 uses the twist in style, they switched to the push in somewhere around '95 or '96. I had to use a pair of pliers to twist mine out, i thought for sure they would break but they didnt. Another thing to consider cleaning is inside the valve cover below the elbows there is a steel wool like material in the valve cover, you can only get to it by removing the valve cover. Mine were completely plugged with crusty old oil

A clogged PCV/CCV system can cause seals and gaskets to blow out. A piston on the back side of the engine builds pressure the same way as the combustion stroke if the air has no where to go. Bellow is a pic of a Volvo flame trap, Volvo's version of a PVC/CCV system. Please note this is a severe example I did today. This is result of not changing your oil regularly.

Also, Try doing a rear main on a 2002 BMW 3 series. OMFG! I have to do a rear main on a 93 Toyota Land Cruiser 4.5 liter tomorrow, 8 hours book time, oh joy. Finialy finished the head gasket today 14 hours later. Should be good for another 300k mikes. Jeep 4.0 rear main, easy, but knock on wood, it will come around to bite you in the ****.
