Hey guys I got a problem, when I start my jeep in the morning there is an odd chattering sound coming from it and when I'm at idle, I have opened the hood and thought it was one of my pulleys because the noise sounds like its coming from the front of the engine. But while driving at higher rpms I can feel a vibration in my clutch pedal. I just replaced the clutch slave cylinder etc. because I just had my tranny rebuilt, I didn't put a new pilot bearing in it because the auto parts store gave me the wrong one, yes I know I should have gone back and got the right one I was just fed up with them at that point. The old one seemed fine too the bearing glided easy and re greased it up, any insight is needed thanks!

It's not the pilot bearing if you're hearing it without your foot on the clutch pedal. The transmission input shaft is turning with the crank at the same speed (locked together) anytime the clutch is engaged. The only time the pilot bearing actually spins is when you foot is holding the cluth pedal down.

Was anything done with the clutch and pressure plate? Does the chattering stop if you step on the clutch? Shift into gear?

The chattering will come and go like its hard to explain cant really notice or even think its there while driving but come to a light and wait a couple seconds it will start to chatter when press the clutch in it doesn't really make a difference that's why I think it has to be a pulley cuz the sound is coming from that area and what do you mean is there Anything done with the clutch or pressure plate

Just curious if they were replaced. Last time I had a chirping manual trans it was because I had slightly misaligned the clutch when I reinstalled it. Just enough to chirp a bit at idle, at higher speeds it was quiet.

Id remove serp belt start motor see if chirp goes away if it does check all pulleys for stiffness/play ect. My question to you why you riding with your foot on clutch pedal at high rpms? Clutch wont last long doing that ....And dont let motor run long no water pump being turned,

This. Remove your accessory belt and start it (it will run for a bit). I had a similar issue and I thought it was either a rod bearing or flexplate bolts. Turns out it was the water pump. I felt the damn thing wobbling through the pedals, the seat, everywhere. Very surprised.

Resting your foot on the clutch pedal while driving can lead to premature throwout bearing failure.

Check your cat covertor cover plate. Mine was making noise when i started and turned it off, I found out after it fell off i guess the tack welds came loose.

It sure can! My brother had Chevy P/U that kept going through throwout bearings come to find out he would also keep his foot on the clutch pedal. Once replaced the last one he stopped putting his foot on it and he hasn't had to change it out in several years now.
