That picture that was posted shows the blower motor.. it on the engine compartment side of the firewall and is pretty much centered behind your glove box.. trace the wires coming out of the fuse box to find the power source wire..could require some moderate digging

 

just take the bolts out and ill guarentee you will find the wires at the motor with out having to dissamble the dash

I did it on mine and the only hard part was screwing everything back. I don't have the right tools to reach the three bolts holding the blower motor.

Yeah, just take out the washer fluid bottle and you'll see the plug. It's near the fender.

 

oh ok, so its kinda like bmws, except theyre in the center and this is on the passenger firewall. I'll scope it out when I have a chance. Also remember mines an '89, thats where my coolant reservoir is, my windshield fluid tank is farther down. I'd love to covert as my coolant res threads for the cap are stripped and I have a big hose clamp around it lol.

 

I havnt gotten in there yet, but, I know the blower is working cause it was on low the other day and when I shut the engine off I heard the cage slowly stop spinning.

So what voltages and or current am I looking for at the blow plug, I assume one is hot all the time and 3 others come on for each speed like at the resistor?

Is it still possible its the motor not being able to change speeds and being flaky?

 

OK! So I have an update that I WOULD THINK would define at least the area of where I am having the issues. Today after driving around for awhile and it was good and warm I heard my blower on a little louder than the low setting it sometimes just does. So I went to change the fan speeds and the all worked! Heat on off, different vents and fan speeds all worked, shut off the engine and they still worked, started back up shortly again and it worked the rest of the day.

Got to my friends house, shut off engine, everything working still, I even banged around the dash and messed with everything looking for flaky wires. A few hours later I turn the key on but DO NOT start the engine, the heat is working properly still. I start the engine and boom, the blower motor is no longer running on any speed....

WHAT IS THE DEAL!!!?!?!?!?

Have you traced all the wires from the back of the dash to the blower motor? Checked all connectors? If so, and all check out to be fine, your problem is coming from an intermittent short within the blower motor. Double check all wiring is in tact and that no wires have had the insulation worn off.

 

ive checked all the wires at the dash switches and to the power and resistor, have not gotten to the blower plug yet.

but there MUST be something specific making it run while the engine had a hot cyclr, then still run hours later before starting again but as soon as you crank the engine the heat goes away.

 

If it is a short within the blower motor, just the vibrations of the motor running could cause it to short and not work. This could be what is causing it to work when only the ignition is on and not work when the motor is runnung. I would get in there and check the plug to the blower (voltages and all) and then make a conclusion. From the way you put it, the switches are good, the wires behind the dash are good, the plugs behind the dash are good, and you haven't checked the plug on the blower or the blower, so...the issue lies within those two places.

 

It was running when the engine was hot, stopped and started just fine engine running or not. Only when it sat for hours and cooled down did the heater stop when the engine cranked and didnt come back on.

does anyone know what voltages I should be getting at the blower plug?
