Default please help 4wd doesnt work

ok im going to my local fishing hole ...an theres a nice stretch of mud an water...so im creepin at like 5 mph an i shift into 4wd an i hear a grinding noise then ...nothin...i shift out then back in ...it goes forward loke 1 foot then stops...same thing in reverse...please help

Check your t-case shifter linkage, maybe it's not engaging all the way. Is the problem with 4h or 4lo or both?

both...also the front drive shaft has alot of play..almost turns 1/2 a turn

Is the play in the transfer case side or pinion side?? Maybe a lunched front axle? Or the transfer case itself went? Chain maybe?

also if i have it in drive then shift into 4 h it moves forward slightly...then stops then shift back to 2 h i have to also shift the transmision to n then back to d.......an when its in 4 h an i hit the gas the back pinion acts like it wants to move an moves just a mil but doesnt move

ok i put transmission fluid in an it fixed the problem....so i go back to the same hole to make sure it worked....half way thriugh it stoped workin.......wtf...so now ill check the gear oil in the axle

ok i checked the front axles fluids an on the end of the plug...wich is magnetic is a crap loadd of metal shavings ....when i get paid on wedsday the covers coming off an its getting cleaned.....wht type of gear lube should i use an wht else should i do while im in there

ok i try in use 4wd an it grinds as it shifts...then stops workin....i go back home an try again i shift in 4 h while in d an nothin happens truck doesnt budge ,,shift back to 2h an nothin... back to n then d an it moves,i put in some tranny fluid an every thing works again,then it stops workin....please help

have you checked your 4WD linkage? my link rod was bent in half and i had grinding when i went into 4HI.

it seems ok.... its reely reely loose. it shifts ok but the truck doesnt move

Multiple post for the same problem just gets double the guesses and clutters up the forum. Hopefully someone with the proper knowledge will help proivide a solution to the issue and get you back on the road and the trail.
