Default Please Help! Both leaf spring bolts in but can't align the center of spring with axle

Hi there,

I have a 94 Country and decided to do the leafs (stock size) and the shocks.
Got so lucky with the rear shocks (broke no bolts...god bless no snow).

As of right now I have:

ONLY WORKING ON DRIVER SIDE RIGHT NOW:
Jacked up unibody
The rear shock removed from the rear driver side axle.
Removed old leaf spring (driver side)
Installed new leaf spring eye bolts on both front side and back side of the leaf spring.
Now I am trying to line up the leaf spring's little nub (in the center on the bottom) into the spring perch so that it pops in.

With both eye bolts in I am having a hell of a time lining this thing up. Its about an inch away from where it should be and I've a lot of different jack stand / jack point variations to try and line them up.

Anybody got an idea?????

I think I got it.
Had to jack up the rear of the other side to give the axle a bit more play.then removed the rear eye bolt. cranked on the axle until the spring popped into the spring perch. then had to do the rear eye bolt.

That's all always a problem. I've done it about 6 times and it's always a puzzle

much appreciated for the reassurance I wasn't crazy.

The more I work on the Jeep and watch YouTube videos as how-tos the more I start thinking they have A LOT of edited out nonsense on the cutting room floor come editing time. So fast so easy huh? I guess after a few times maybe ..but still...my vote is on a pile of swearing and outtakes haha.

Exactly. Or my favorite is where the guy says, "OK now let's remove the 28mm nut holding the ball joint on." And he picks up a small ratchet and and effortlessly starts turning it off. And I'm sitting there with a 2 foot breaker bar and socket and the thing still isn't budging.

I was just using there kit as an example lol. I’ve heard mixed things with them. I will take your advice. There’s a local guy around here who sells zone products so I’ll talk to him

Put some pressure on the axle up towards the leaf springs with a jack and then kick it with the bottom of your foot until it goes in.

my absolute favorite is one of the 4wd mags that shows time taken to install a 2" lift kit...I posted it up at the time..., it was something ludicrous like 2hrs !!

no wait 30-60mins lol ...look at the source to..hehe

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/how-to...ift-kit-399068

it took me about 5hrs each to do front & rears (this includes shocks)..so 10hrs

dang we are all just pathetic & lazy

I'm debating on whether or not I should use red loctite to put them back in. I rarely ever use red unless I know I will NEVER remove something again. I dont really PLAN to take them out again, but you never know.
I typically just use blue. What do you guys use?

I used blue. My u-bolts called for retorquing after 500-1000 miles so I carried that over to everything, and then used the Loctite "post-assembly".

The primary purpose of Loctite Red isn't "I'm never going to take this apart again", it's "If this assembly comes apart while driving I'm gonna die".
