thanks for the input.. I"m going to call it a night.. Get up early .. replace the leaking Power Steering pump . recheck the manifold bolts while cool... then change the 02 sensor to the JY sensor and see what happens..

wo.. just had a bad thought.. do I have a broken wire.. ?? DID i "bend it" to create a connection and if its straight.. does it not connect.. soo ..

Have you tried WOT and does it run OK? Bizarre how they have the fuel pump set-up:

Seems to me it would be ECU, oxygen heater relay, oxygen sensor or wiring. I'd start with wiring, especially the ground to the oxygen sensor.

I thought I had posted it but I guess I didn't ..

I PASSED SMOG.. WAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what was the fix?
1) apparently the o2 sensor had failed.
2) I did retighten my manifold
3) I did put on a JY IAC
4) I did replace my coil and "coil seat" with a JY part
5) I did change the Oil.( LOL.. I don't believe this made a difference)
6) I did replace the power steering pump (NO MORE FRIGGIN PW Steering leak)
7) I did Clean and reset my ECU connections. what a pain to take that thing out and put it back in..
8) I did update my R.E.M. II software to 9.2 (thanks NickInTime)

The only time things started working .. was when I changed to the JY o2 sensor.

While at the JY I picked up the following .. thinking I may need them.

1) 89 ECU
89 TCU
2) 2 EGR
3) 2 IAC (used 1)
4) Wiring harness from the end of the fuel rail to the bottom of the engine
5) CPS harness (may go back and get the CPS)
6) Knock Sensor

If anyone needs one of these. they can be had for my cost plus frt.

-H

I hope you're quoting George Peppard and not the remake with Liam Neeson. :}

(Apologies to the young whippersnappers who have not idea where the quote comes from)

I was about to suggest you try an Italian tune-up, but the O2 sensor seemed to do the trick. Glad to hear you can finally sleep at night.

Congratulations on success

Its a pretty sad state of affairs when we have to rely on OEM junkyard sensors to be a benchmark for our Jeeps, but as I mentioned , thats what I do

I have a complete XJ that is only 59 VIN off my DD, I keep it fully operational, and have a complete set of junkyard sensors and computers under my passenger seat as well

did buy a new O2 sensor a while back, and it failed within 3 months

Can anyone tell me. Is the metal o2 sensor in my photo wrong? The pic on the order page shows the ceramic sensor but I was shipped the metal sensor.

btw... This is what success really looks like....

This photo was taken about 10 miles off the road. You can not tell it from the photo but it is about 75 to 100 ft above the current water line at Lake Meade on the NV side.
