Yeah, after reading a whole bunch of threads about the CPS/CPK, I am now pretty convinced that it is the problem. I think when I was messing with it and jiggling the wires around today, it started working again. But according to what you are saying and what these threads are saying, it will happen again. So I'm gonna hit up the salvage yards tomorrow and see if I can find a Jeep or 2 with the CPS I need. Thanks a lot for your help guys! I will post the results in the next day or 2.

So I went to EVERY auto shop in town and every auto salvage yard (none of the yards had a 4 cylinder Cherokee). None of the auto shops had the right CPS. I mean, they did, but the plug was WAY different. We looked at every CPS from the '80s to current. None of the plugs were the same. This leads me to believe that the plug on my unit is custom. Anyway, I took the plug apart to see how the wires were attached. It turns out that the middle plug was barely attached by a thread (which I hope was the problem all along). So I stripped the rubber off the wires to lengthen them and reattached them to the plug so they have a better connection. All I can do now is hope that my Jeep doesn't die again.

the crankshaft position sensor is about 18.00 online or 32. 00 at you local parts store.( if your in a hurry). Its about 1.5 ft long ad kind of tricky to change. From the top of the rear of the engine unplug the sensor and it feeds down to the top of the bellhousing. Two bolts hold it in place, real tight to get to but not impossible.

Actually, the cheapest one here is $60. Also, as my last post says, no one in Tucson has the CPS that I have. The plug on mine is different than anything the parts shops had. Someone had custom fitted a plug on it. Anyway, it's fixed now. I've been driving it the past couple of days with no problems. Also, on my Jeep (which is only a 4 cylinder 2.5l) it was a piece of cake to get the CPS off and on. Took me less than 2 minutes. There was plenty of space and it wasn't tight at all. I had to take the bottom bolt off from underneath and the top bolt off from above, but it was really easy.

Not that I'm glad your having the problems that you are but I am glad to see I'm not the only one that has those kinda problems as far as the weird one of a kind connectors and stuff like that. I seem to run into that stuff all the time. It sucks!!!!

Well. I tried getting mine removed today but never found a good angle to get at it. Tried from under with a ratchet and two 6 inch extensions + two 3 inch extensions + a swivel adapter and every combination of the 4 extensions I could think of. No way to try from the top, at least not with the tools I have available. I have tomorrow off so Ill try some more. Such a pain in the butt especially when I don't know for sure if this is the problem or not. I want to pull the new fuel pump back out and take it back to NAPA for another one and also get the CPS at the same time BUT more than likely they will have to order a new fuel pump and the CPS ..
In short....it's just been a huge mess. Everyone I know that could help me is either too busy or does not drive. lol.

I was also considering removing the drive shaft. However I don't own a set of ratchet wrenches. Might give me a bit more room for the tools I do have though.
At this point I am kind of at a stopping point anyway. Going to have to wait till after payday for more tools/parts.
Thanks for the idea on the ratchet wrench though.
