Police Package has "Sport" on side?
So I used the VIN Decoder from here and it shows the XJ I bought has the Police Package. The Jeep has the side "Sport"non it. Wondering if Police Packages came like that or if maybe a PO added the "Sport" lettering. Thanks.

If it's got the 4 switch bezel and a switch that says "EXT IDLE" then it's probably a police package. I'd be interested to know if you had that. If you don't, then the VIN decoder is probably wrong and you don't have a PP.
A Sport w/police package would be unusual I would think. Most gov entities would buy the SE (base) model.

I'll get answers to these once I take look inside her, I bought her pretty much sight unseen. Did grab a couple pics of exterior and looked inside, but can't remember all these details. Lol. Will be nice to get her flatbed home so I can swap out the cylinder head for sure.

Floor shifter, does NOT have the ext.idle switch as I've rear about, nor the rubber flooring or plastic rear bench. Thinking the decoder might have been incorrect. Don't know any other way to find out, I know it's not all that important, however, learning is the fun part of ownership.

I've seen the government/fleet Cherokees in many different forms. A good friend of mine bought a White 98 Cherokee many years ago that was a county or government Jeep. I think it had to be a special order because it was an SE, 4.0, AW4, with Selec Trac 4x4. It also had power windows, power locks, cruise, vinyl floors, EXT idle switch, ABS, skid plate option with a trac lok. Very odd optioned XJ.

exactly what ^^ said. There is a stock "police package" model that they got when they ordered. But sometimes they wanted other packages, so they would order a few with other needs (like a 4x4 or 2, or a few with power packages.
The vin decoder is strictly telling you that it was purchased as part of a fleet purchase. The engine should have any standard police mods, but they could order other packages, or even standard models via the discount.
