poor traction in rain... need new AT tires...which brand?
Currently stock, running 235/75 15 street tires. Tires are good on dry pavement, but add a slight rain and oil in asphalt causes 87 Jeep XJ to slip and slide (fish tailing) out of control, also when coming to gradual slow stop many times the brakes will grab and jeep slides out of control. It acts like the tires are bald, but they have at least half of tread life left.
I am tired of these tires and looking to get a good AT tire that will work good on wet streets. I probably will not be driving in the deep mud.
What brand tire would you buy?
Also seeing a lot of new jeeps running Nitto Trail Grappler and Toyo MT Open Country, more MT than AT, anyone run these tires on the street?

I have found that most all weather passenger tires and tires with a closed center ribbon have a tendency to cause wandering in the wet stuff (along with speed). The old standby goodyear wrangler does well in the water. I used to run daytona SRs' but they quit making those and those were most excellent. with the wandering issue I had an uncle who always had a waggoneer and always complained about wandering in the rain, my 90 wanders, and some other folks I know complain about the same thing, who knows maybe it's just a JEEP thing.

I was quite surprised with the definity Dakota ATs I bought. Was considering the BFGs of course, but I was rushed to pass inspection and needed as much of a price break as I could get. They are very similar to the BFGs in design, which probably is also why they last longer (rated for 50,000 mi. Like the BFGs...though many get more if they drive kindly).
I recently was in New Jersey for the Hurricane Sandy event (I document severe weather) and with the large amounts of water, didn't second guess the tires at all. They seem to do well in some sandy spots though didn't get in deep. Mud seems to clog a little bit fast, but I only see it as an issue if hard core mudding/wheeling....which then should have MTs anyway. Snow is untested but reviews lie, the BFGs likely mean better than pedestrian Truck tires, but not great.
On a good day you can get some deep discounts from Pep Boys on them. Not a great place to buy, so check your local store for reliability too. But I only spent $650 for my 31" mounted and balanced and got another discount to have the alighnment done for $60 I think...but my PB is a decent store (a Jeeper works there).

In the AT market I would go with the Good-year duratracks, they are the only winter rated All terrain truck tire on the market, work very well on our plow truck, and a few buddy's run them on the XJ's off-road. work in all conditions I have seen them in. rock, dirt, snow, rain.

i loved my general grabber at2's ...they were good in the rain, and were awesome in the snow
i have hankook a/t tires on my jeep now....it sticks like glue to the road in rain
bfg a/t i hear good and bad...in my opinion, they are not worth the price...compared you can get almost the same tire (general grabber a/t 2) for alot less.

bridgestone revo at's, are hands down the best all weather tires till they are bald, bfgs suck after 20-25k, you will find them a little pricey, but you will thank me for the recommendation, stay away from the kumho sat's, they just suck-suck,and suck again, despite their high rating on tire rack, i got 2 sets of those, one for Momma's 00 XJ Sport, and they are allover the place in wet weather, just like bfg's after some miles!!

I work at a retailer that sells Bridgestone and I'm getting the Dueler Revos for my XJ, they are an awesome tire but pricey. Black Friday will see great pricing
