Popping noise when turning left or right

Check behind the steering box. There's an adapter there that tends to break. It's made from magnesium so it corrodes the steering box bolts (you think they're tight, but they're really frozen into the bracket).

That happened on a customers XJ, threw us for a loop until we just dropped everything that might cause it and low and behold, when we took the steering box out 1/4 of the spacer fell out

I'd like to go with both the inside and outside plates. The idea of the bolts pulling through the frame doesn't excite me (though I'm sure the results would )
I didn't get underneath to look at it, but I'm still having a hard time visualizing how the outer plate goes in. There was a bracket I had to work around when I worked on the gear box upper bolt.
