Very simple question. Which wire is positive and which one is the ground? They are for the fog lights on my cherokee. One is green and one is black. Thanks for the help.

It amazes me that so many people do not own a basic multimeter. Cheap, perfectly serviceable instruments are available for less than $10.

Such a tool is as important to me as a spanner or screwdriver in my toolbox. Although today’s vehicles contain a myriad of electronic control circuits – simple voltage measurements and continuity checks (on fuses and bulb elements etc) can save a fortune in garage bills - and from being wrong 0.001% of the time with black wires.

My advice to anyone who has more than a passing interest in what goes on under the hood of their vehicle should own a multimeter, and spend an afternoon familiarising themselves with its operation and limitations. And while you’re about it – consider buying an OBD scanner so that once the engine warning light illuminates, you can interrogate the diagnostics as to how serious the fault might be.

I just got one today, after I installed the lights, wish I had one before cuz as it turns out... the black was positive and green was negative.

Non the less I'm happy with the project. It was only 35 dollars, a couple hours cuz of learning mistakes, and a lot of swearing.

Yes even a cheap $2 Harbor Freight meter will do. You can never go by wire color. Unless you KNOW it is still 100% stock and that nobody has repaired or modified anything since your rig was built.

That's same as I'm doing whenever it stops raining. Did you have problems getting old mounts off?
