You don't want any vacuum leaks, anywhere, ever. First reason is that lower vacuum will tell the MAP to dump more fuel. My disco is working fine after 23 years at over 270K on the odometer. To each his own! (I did have a fork break in my 84. Cost like $5 to have it welded).

A loose zip tie on the double rubber plug deal will keep a branch from knocking it off.

My long term goal is to learn more about the vac system and eventually eliminate any parts of it that I dont use (like the cruise control) or maybe upgrade parts to not be part of the vac system if thats a possibility. but learning how it all works is going to obviously take priority!

I was licensed for California Smog....in 81! Then moved "into the hills".

Learned loads dealing with my fuel injected 90 that doesn't even have ign. points since, plenty of that here in the last couple years.

Nothing vacuum controlled is gonna hurt you. No comment on the EGR valve. (mine doesn't seem to work, maybe an obstruction in the line that activates it, not sure)

All that ****, the evap canister, the cruse, the heated air intake, (that air cleaner deal), all harmless, and even helpful, (if you breathe). The CCV system vents gasses and moisture from your crankcase. It's (almost ) all good, I think.
