Possible fix for (my) death wobble
#33
While looking at other details for my current jeep project (89 Jeep Grand Wagoneer), i came upon this DW thread as was compelled to reply. Recently, I gave my 2000 XJ to my son and he immediately wanted it lifted and bigger tires added. Before, at speeds of 50-52 the steering would wobble. I had the same problem on my 2003 X Wrangler and really never figured it out. We replaced stablizers, bushings, rods, etc.. but I might have some news to share. While lifting the XJ, while disconnecting the the track bar (connected from the frame to axle, i think it's the track but i've heard others refer to as drag bar), we discovered the bolt did not have nut/tap on the bolt. It's a tuff spot to get a wrench into but after we reassembled with the lift and ensured the bolt was tapped, the wobble went away. Hope it helps.
