Default Possible overheating issue

Cherokee xj 1996 sport

Recently had an old freeze plug come off after trying to temporarily trying to fix it and putting it back in.
The old plug came out on the test drive leaving me with no coolant and an over heat.
Let the car settled and drove it back possibly on for 2 minutes while over heated to make it back home.
I replaced all freeze plugs, changed radiator, checked oil for coolant oil looked good other then it being old, put new oil in, new manifold gasket, and thermostat.
Noticed today on the second drive that my Aux fan didnt automatically kick in during a drive through. My temp got up to a little before the second last line on the gauge.
I turned on the AC and the fan turned on. I turned the AC off and the fan stayed on until it got to half way and turned off again.

Once i got to driving again the car stayed back to normal temp below half way.

Im stumped.

Might have cooked the temp sender. IIRC, on the 96, you have two temp senders. One operates the gauge, and that's all it does. The other is the 'real' one that tells the PCM about engine temps. Later models figured out how to do both jobs with one temp sender.

Is that the one that plugs into the inlet manifold right at the back towards the firewall?
I unplugged that to remove the inlet manifold. I wonder if it didn’t plug in properly?

I went ahead and checked those cables on the sensors and they’re fine they’re not burnt or fried and they’re plugged in.
I am going to burp the system tomorrow.
I was told I could still have an air bubble which is not allowing the right info to the ecu making the aux fan not work.
I just find it strange that if I turn the AC on the fan turns on and if I turn it off the fan stays on.
that tells me info isn’t being read properly perhaps?
