Is it possible a transmission from an XJ with a blown block might be damaged too?

Default Is it possible a transmission from an XJ with a blown block might be damaged too?

Hello ya'll,

I have a scrap jeep for parts. It was scrapped because the block blew at the 6th cylinder. I know the head and other cylinders were damaged by large fragments of metal that got pushed through the system.

I'm thinking about pulling the transmission off the thing, but it looks like someone else started to do so already and gave up. Is it possible that the transmission was damaged by the block blowing?

Anything is possible. The owner who drove the Jeep until the motor failed probably wasn't the best at taking care of the Jeep, and may have "abused" it....

But you will never know if the transmission is good until you install it in another Jeep.

The good thing is the AW4 Transmission is a really tough transmission.

Change the fluid before running....

I bought a car at the city salvage auction to fix up for my crash-prone youngest daughter.

In the end I was amazed with how much was broken before the car was abandoned.
I mean, who drives around with broken suspension springs, no power steering, bald tires to the cord, a slipping transmission and pads down to the metal?

A failed CPS finally put it out of its misery.

JEEP - Just empty every pocket. Especially us few who live in non-inspection states don't mind if our jeeps are held together with zip-ties (or can't afford anything more). And no I don't think the transmission could be damaged by engine damage alone but like everyone else said is it even worth pulling the tranny?
