On the topic of vents..something a buddy of mine did was on his hood mounts he put washers to raise the back end of the hood up which has essentially done one of the factors hood vents are installed for and that's better escape of heat...Has worked well for him since he has heat issues and was a decent temp fix till he has time to install the vents..

Finally got the passenger side done the other night, I plan on doing the driver side this weekend. Hood vents came off a 1981 Honda Prelude. I had to slightly modify the shelf for the pressure tank so that the lid of the tank didn't come into contact with the hood vent. I couldn't believe that there was less than an 1/8th of an inch of clearance between the lid of the bottle and the hood prior to cutting. Anyway, here is a couple of pics. I will post up some better/clearer pictures once I have the other side done.
The dimensions on these are 10" long by 3" wide. I mounted these in-line with the hood "contours". Measured in 10.75" from the sides and 6" from the windshield end of the hood. With these dimensions I was able to avoid the hood braces. I will also post pictures of my super cheap, super strong vent mounts once I am done.
Mike
Edit: The first pic was a test fit, before being bolted down. These vents do sit flush with the hood.

I have pulled (and sold) at least a dozen sets of Lebaron vents and Datsun Z vents from the local junkyards, mainly because everybody and their brother has them. I haven't seen to many people using the Prelude vents.

Ok, here's the finished product.
For the mounting, I found some scrap stainless steel brackets that already had holes cut in them. I cut each piece into 2" sections. I then found some 1/2" tall nuts and JB Welded one each to one end of the bracket. The end with the nut then got JB'd to the underside of the hood. Then a simple 3/8" long machine screw went in to the underside of the hood vent into the stock Prelude mounting holes. The vents are held in tightly, yet easy to remove.
Close up of driver side:
Close up of passenger side:
I know the mounts aren't the prettiest, but they are functional. Total cost (including vents, hardware, and JB Weld = less than $10.)
I have a friend who runs a sign shop that is going to cut me some magnetic vinyl covers for free. In wintertime I will simply undo the four screws and remove the vents, then cover the holes with the magnets. Nice and simple (and very cheap!)

I think the magnetic covers are a great Idea. I saw a guy with a trailer Queen that had holes in his hood with large magnetic American flags covering them until he got ready to start it up. He just reached across the hood and snatched the flags away and got in and started it up. I never thought about them being a good vent cover until you mentioned it.
