As with the above post, you didn't say where you are located; maybe rust is common. I posted last week about my '96 bought here in Atlanta with 172K miles for $1600. No rust, no accidents, needed serious cleanup and a windshield, but it will be a keeper. I was looking for a 98-99, but this one popped up. In my search I saw XJ's all across the Southeast for under $3000 with no rust. I would be wary and look for one with less obvious rot.

Just picked up a second 1996 Cherokee Sport, 189K, $2,222, 2 owners, maintenance records since new. Do have to pay $611 to get it shipped to me however.
