Default Power Drivers Seat In-Op

Motor works , seat moves up and down but not front to back. I removed the seat but can't figure out what part needs replacing ! Maddening!

Ive looked on line but haven't found my 1995 set up anywhere.

Can someone either point me to the right place or post the part# I need - assuming the fix is a "known" issue ?

Thanks guys!

Have you tried powering the motor that controls the forward/backwards directly with some wires? To do this you will need the seat out of the Jeep.

There are 3 motors in the seat mech so it's worth testing all 3. Mine originally would get stuck in the fully forward or backward position and took me a bit of time to free up nicely.

Thanks for that.... exactly what I was looking for. I'll pull that seat back out and alligator clip some 12volt power and see what I find .

Just be careful not to short your power wires out, the pins on the motors are rather close. When mine first were stiff, you would see the motor twitch and stiffen up. I had to just try making it move, give it a break, try again until it started to run on the rails freely. Then just greased it up well and they've been fine since.

Note from DJ
Here is a diagram of the three motors that move your power seat.

This kind of thing is a good place for penetrating oil. It will loosen the old, dried up grease that is making it hard to move. Basically, you are using it like a solvent to clean up the old crud. Once you get it cleaned up, use grease to keep things in good shape.

Most penetrating oils don't smell very good, so you want to be careful that you don't get it on the upholstery.

You can find the 95 FSM here, with file 95XJ_8WL for LHD or 95XJ_8WR for RHD having loads of wiring diagrams for you.

I had a problem with mine that was cured by blasting the switches with contact cleaner.

Thanks ! Could you give me a little more detail exactly how you "approached" the switches for the blasting ?

I haven't responded to this thread cause the only power seats I have first hand experience with are in '97 and up.
But that question I can answer. LOL.
You will separate the switch from the wiring harness connector and douse both the back of the switch and the connector with something like this.

To finish off after the contact cleaner, some dielectric silicone grease will keep moisture out of the connector.

Have you had any luck with the motors yet?

I jumped 12volts directly to the motor and it spins/runs but no movement from the seat. Is that a cable it's trying to spin ? Like a speedo cable ?

So again my experience is with '97 and up power seats.
I have no idea what the motors are in a '95.
But my first guess is the nylon worm gears that I am assuming you have in yours.
They get stripped.
Shots of them in the motors on '97 and up ones.
