Default power steering pump ?

I have a 99 cherokee auto 4.0L. It has 136000 miles on it. The power steering pump went out on it about 6 weeks ago and I changed it. It was find but all of a sudden it gets a little hard to turn the wheel and when after a turn and the wheel goes to straighten out the steering wheel pulsates a little bit. I also noticed when taking the cap off to check the level it pops a bit like it has air in it but I am loosing no fluid and have bleed it several times.

What else can I look for to correct this issue? Over the last week it has not gotten any worse.

I would make sure your serpentine belt isnt too loose or tight and make sure your cap seals tightly.

This can be cause by a few problems such as terribad alignment, bent steering components and a bad steering box. I would not suspect your pump in this situation. My best suggestion is to put some blocks behind the back wheels. engage the e-brake. jack up the front axle and put some jack stands underneath so both wheels are off the ground. Then start the jeep and have a friend turn the steering wheel from lock to lock multiple times. You will be in front of the jeep inspecting the steering components and listening for noises. Check for binding and put your hand on the steering box to feel for clunking ect. This action will also bleed out any air left in the system so keep some ps fluid handy.

Hope this helps. When it happened to me it was the steering box. Good luck
