Default problems with a 2.8L help!!!!

so last april i was cruising down the highway holding about 2500 rpm, nothing crazy, and all of a sudden lost all power and the engine just started thunking like nothing youve ever heard... anyways long story short i pulled the damn motor and found the crankshaft snapped in half kinda cool but a real downer since it was an everyday driver and i was preparing for college. i got a 2.8l from a guy rebuilt it (basicly just redid all the gaskets and made sure the valves and everything werent bent worn etc..) dropped it in and started it up right away, as this was my first real project i was pumped i got it right... well i went to put it in gear and found that i couldnt get the clutch to engage therefore not able to put it in gear. i since then have replaced the master and slave cylinders and have spent endless hours bleeding the system. i put a new pressure plate in (clutch pressure plate and flywheel only have about 5000 miles on it since they were replaced the year before)

anyways i have no idea what to do. i talked to a GM guy and was told that since the motor i bought was out of an automatic the spacing on the back of the motor where the flexplate attach is different then a manual where the flywheel attaches does anyone know the truth of this or knows what may be causing this. i have over 3000 into this damn thing and now it is just a lawn ornament

if the motor mounts bolted in, then you don't have spacing issues.

did you put the throw out bearing and plate in?

I'm assuming because you've replaced the slave cylinder that it's an external slave cylinder.

did you get the proper clutch kit? the 2.5 liter has a thicker flywheel and so it uses a shorter throwout bearing, which is why the clutch kits are different.

I hope you got rid of the factory intake and carb...they're half of the problem with power on 2.8's anyways.

thanks i will have to try the throw out, it looked good since its only 5000 miles old but you never know.

it has just become a parts rig for the new jeep i bought with the 2.5l. i just want to get the 2.8l jeep running so i can get it out of my driveway.

the stock carb was the biggest peice of crap ive ever seen, i put a weber carb on and was pleased with it (before the motor let go)
