i have to agree on not covering the windshield. but i def. like the idea of having them. i always wanted some for my XJ. i would say black or bare metal depending on price difference. if its a big enough difference i say bare metal. if its like $2 then black haha. i would def. consider buying some.

Pre-production sneak-peek
Heres a sneak-peek of ONE of the two production prototypes.
Not easy getting the three compound angles just right.
Plus I can't close the door to get a good unobstructed view of it.
Mounting base does not cover the windshield trim.
And the 2" wide upper plate will be getting trimmed to 1.5" wide to flow with the A-pillar better and to get rid of the excess that sticks out.
The slight tilt of the upper mounting plate was corrected shortly after this pic was taken. It is NOW level.
Will be getting (2) 5/16" flat head machine screws and a nut-plate for the rear for ease of installation.
Like I said this is preliminary. On the production units, the 2"x2" angle will be CNC machined to fit snugly against the mounting base, and have smoother edges.

You may be able to get a "bulk deal" on black powder coating which would be fine for most people it seems, or plain steel.
What is to be done for wiring? A hole through the pillar? This is my concern.

Well, it looks like they will be black epoxy.
As for mounting:
There will be (2) 5/16" stainless steel FH machine screws. Countersunk for flush fit.
And YES, holes will need to be drilled. Unless you want to duct tape them on.
I would suggest NOT using the duct tape idea as duct tape is not weatherproof and tends to dry out over time when exposed to the elements.
Besides, It'll look like ****
Wiring: There will be a small hole in the base with grommet to allow wire(s) to light.
Mounting height: I have designed these to fit 5 1/4" above the bottom of A-pillar. Please note that the A-pillar is tapered. Mostly on the facet that these bolt onto. You can mount them hiher or lower if you want but they will not fit properly. I will mostlikely be providing a piece of adhesive weatherstripping which will be affixed to the backside to keep any water out of the pillar.
I have done some trimming of the pieces and have fixed the tilting of the light mount face.
So all there is to do is to take these pieces and set them up in the CNC they can be identical and mirrored parts can be made.
Sure wish I had a TIG welder at my disposal
Once I have a set complete, I will tally up the production costs. Like most of my items...they will be inexpensive AND shipping will be included.
And REWSTER: I always thought your "best friend" was sitting next to you in the cell saying, "That was ****ING AWESOME...Lets do it again!"
