Propane Conversion Kit

Propane Conversion Kit
So i have been thinking about something.
http://www.gotpropane.com/
I have a 98 Jeep Cherokee that i use for a daily driver and weekend toy.
They sell a complete kit for around 800 dollars. I could proabaly put a kit together for cheaper than that. Since there is a Propane sales place right in my town and the owner runs all his vehicles off propane. And Propane is right at 2.80 per gallon. But i could get a better price if i started a business account probably. And it is only 1/2 mile from my house.
My thought's though of using it in a SUV instead of a truck. If there is a way to have something like a nitrous tank. Use a blow-down tube incase of a accident that it would exit the vehicle. Of if it pressurized too much and was able to vent off.
Thoughts? Any input would be great.

I know a guy with a rock crawlin' truggy who has a 488ci Chevy in it and he uses propane. So it has been done. Many of the vehicles here have a conversion b/c propane is very cheap in Mexico.

I have thought of that as well. It is easy to obtain, and considerably cheaper than gasoline. Plus, it smells awesome when it burns, IDK why I love it, I just do, I have since I smelled it coming out of my Great Grandfather's tractor on the farm!! I must be weird!!

Yeah they don't smell bad. I don't know if I would want a tank taking up room inside my XJ though. In Brian's truggy it was different, first it is a trail only rig and second his tank is mounted out in what was the bed of the truck.

What i am thinking is ditching the fuel tank and putting the cylinder in it's place. And making a shield for it to protect it from anything.

So your plan is not a dual fuel XJ but propane only. I don't think that would work for me b/c there are not enough places to get propane like there is gasoline.

Yeah that's my idea since there is so many places close to me that can fill my tanks. There is 3 places within 10 minutes of me. Blue is there no places to fill your propane grill tanks?

There are exchanges at some inconveince stores and there is a place up the road but he sits it on a scale to fill it. Don't know how that would work with a vehicle mounted tank.

Bingo. Where he sit's it on the scale to fill it. You just unhook the tank and fill it and put it right back on. Easy as pie. Not as easy as opening the gas door. But you have a bracket setup with a hinge on it and a valve to loosen. That is the same thing i would have to do. But i think running two tanks side by side would be easiest For less fill-ups.
