Default Proportioning valve issue

my brakes are spongy. always have been since i bought this cherokee. i replaced all the parts but the proportioning valve since i was told that if it let you have brakes when your line snapped, it was working. and it did, when the rear line broke, the proportioning valve locked off the rear line, just like i hear its supposed to do so i could still stop with the front brakes. a buddy of mine is working on a cherokee with the identical problem, squishy brakes. he power bleed them on a machine, did htem the old fashioned way, everything, just like i did and he is still having hte same problem. he did some googling and came up with removing a seal in the proportioning valve and it should stop the spongyness.

what do you guys think? i have been driving with the brakes feeling terrible for about 6 months and i get really nervous in stop and go traffic because of how they feel. i have replaced it all but the booster and proportioning valve because they tested good. what do you guys think about this seal in the proportioning valve being removed? you ever hear of this to fix the problem? anyone else have this problem and figure it out?

i gave up trying to fix it but since this new idea popped up, i am back in the game to fix the brakes
So the brakes starting getting mushy so i loosened the back brake line out of the proportioning valve and had someone hit the brakes and nothing came out. I tapped the valve and pushed on the end of it because I heard that it can get reset that way and then fluid started leaking out with the connection a little loose. This was a replaced valve that tested out fine in the salvage yard. I am so frustrated with this Jeep and the brakes. I tested the electrical connection going to the valve when the car starts and it initially gets some voltage but it drops to nothing in a split second. Nothing changes when I hit the brakes. How much voltage should that connection get? anyone had luck resetting the valve? Why the hell is it so hard to keep the valve working? Please help! Cannot drive it now at all.

Turns out it was the main brake cylinder. It was partially working but not at full power so that is why I thought the valve was the issue. I should have just changed that out since it is so cehap and easy. I spent too much money for the shop to diagnose that, duh.
