For now I like that cable tangle thing. The thieves are using a sawsall. Would that cable stand up to a bolt cutter? They are pretty dumb, but I bet they could learn to bring both tools.
Not a complete solution, but definitely a deterrent. Most would be thieves will see this and move on to an easier target.

looks like all you have to do is cut the cable and pull it out of each hole.
I guess you also have to hope that your vehicle is high enough and road hazards are low enough that it wont get caught and rip the exhaust off. I know there are other things that can get caught under vehicles but that seems to multiply the chances by a great deal. I cant imagine something like that not rattling constantly.
Never said it was a good option, just an available one. That said, have you ever tried to cut a braided stainless cable with a Sawzall? Unless it's under tension it's an exercise in futility, and why would you cut a tensioned cable anyway...**** will flop around like a fish out of water.
You could torch it, but who's going to haul bottles around, or cutoff wheel...but it would be loud and take a lot longer. Like I said, most tweakers would just move to an easier mark.
I've also seen bolt on plates, but they're mostly for newer vehicles and are model specific.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea I mean I haven't seen a better option yet. But I think the theif would just get an extra foot of pipe at each end along with the cat and your $200 rattle cage

It's all about time, TT. The longer you delay them, the more likely they will move on to easier targets.

imo, most thieves of this nature would carry both a sawzall and angle grinder, just change batteries lol

The state I live in now requires emissions, so don't think it would pass with a straight pipe on it... And anyone know if the cat actually changes the back-pressure enough to cause any future harm?

Other than higher emissions, the vehicle will work just fine with the cat deleted, no harm. (later model xj's may "throw a code" however, but run fine) But you legally are not supposed to do that other than for test purposes.
I wonder if an alarm can be made that is sensitive to the vibrations of a saw, without false alarms?

You possibly could....but I can't honestly remember the last time I saw ANYone paying attention to a car alarm going off. The first few years they were on the market yeah...but that was ages ago now.
I used to live where emissions testing wasn't required...but now I'm afraid that deleting the cat all together is not an option where I live. Would be curious to know if it would still pass the sniffer, but that would be a pricey experiment.
I move quick when my alarm goes off. I don't move as quick when it is someone else's alarm, but I still try. I'd rather live in a society than with a mob of individuals.
