Default PT 4x4 Light Staying On

So my PT 4wd light's staying on ever since I had got it stuck the other day. I'm pretty sure it's not in 4, but I still need to double check. Any ideas?

Jack it up and rotate front wheels. If driveshaft turns, you are in 4 X 4.

If it does not turn, the switch on the side of the transfer case is bad or gunked up. That switch turns on/off the 4WD indicator lamp. Try cleaning it so the plunger can work.

with solid axles wouldn't turning the front wheels make the front drive shaft turn even in 2wd?

The front drive shaft is spinning, so it's stuck in 4x4. I unplugged that 4 vac line plug going into the Tcase and tried blowing into it, but it didn't do anything. It didn't look mucked up either. Any ideas where to go from here? Not too keen on driving my DD in PT 4wd. Please Help!

Thanks always, Sean

If your transfer case is not engaged in 4wd, then it is not in 4wd. The shift motor is just stuck in place locking he two piece shaft together. It is the same as having a one piece shaft on the pass side.

So you're saying that the front driveshaft's supposed to spin even in 2wd?

Yes the drive shaft spins in 2wd that is why people get a thunk or wobble when a front u-joint is going out.
Undo the DS from the front axle, if it is 2wd it should spin freely on its own. Don't put it in drive or reverse as it will spin wildly if you are in 4wd.
Or go find some dirt, give it some gas and see if the front is spinning or just rolling.

Your drive shaft should not spin when you are in 2 hi- I would take the cad mech. off to see if the collar is jammed (stuck holding the 2 pass. side axles together) or if the shift fork is bent, broken causing the collar to remain engaged.

would having the axle disco permanently engaged damage the transfer case during regular driving on these? i modified mine when my vac disco went out. it seems to be okay.

As stated earlier, it is the same as having a one piece shaft on the pass side. It will not cause any damage or excessive wear.
