Be sure to not use tap water for the final fill of cooling system. Use distilled water and full strength coolant or premixed coolant.
Yeah, I figured out the defrost/compressor relationship. Just never messed around much in the engine compartment before.
We have well water, not city water, so ours is coming straight from mother nature. Does that make a difference? I'm refilling it tomorrow. All flushing complete.

what gives?
Yes, the belt is new ... figured I'd change it while I had it off to do the water pump. Better safe than sorry since I can tell the previous owner wasn't good on maintenance.
Yes, I joined the forum 8 years ago. I know a lot, I don't know everything. And like I said before, I never messed around much under the hood. When I lived in Jersey my mechanic handled all that stuff.

I would not use well water for the final fill. It could easily have more minerals/deposits than city water, could also contain particulate or suspended solids. These minerals can build up on walls of cooling system and/or clog small passages. Distilled water should be used in cooling systems.
