That's assuming you have an axle rather than an axel.

That's a Dana 35. Here's a handy chart for everyone.

The Dana logo stamped into the cover is also a bit of a giveaway too. :}

The metal fill plug also says it's a 1984 to very early 1990 D35 which does not use c-clips, and is a bit stronger than the c-clip version. Assuming someone didn't swap the cover to get rid of the leak prone rubber butt plug, which is a bad idea. The c-clip version has the rubber plug located higher up to get oil out to the wheel bearings, which are lubed by the diff oil. Versus sealed wheel bearings on the non-clip axle.

8.25 didn't get used until 91, I think?

There's a tag bolted on around the 10 o'clock position. What doe sit say? Perhaps you have aa LSD in it.

Of course, knowing the model year of your XJ would help resolve any confusion.

Seeing as the tag is still there and what the cover bolts and plug look like I suspect the juice in there was last changed...never.

Looks like mine.

'88. D35 with Trac-lok. Mine still has both tags. The short one at 5:00 says "Use limited slip diff lube only". The long one has the BOM number and gear ratio.

The tag on his looks like the short one on mine,

We HAVE to KNOW!!!
