Default purge valve clicks??

Is the purge valve on the EVAP system supposed to "click" when the engine is running? I have a small leak evap code being thrown and I'm trying to hunt down the problem. The valve is located right next to the charcoal canister and attached to the firewall. When my jeep runs it goes click click click click..just wondering if this was normal??

P0442 is a small Evap leak, which could be anything these are the hardest to find. If I were to diag one of these in my driveway first I would take the gas cap off and tap it firmly on a sheet of paper is any rust scale comes out I would replace the cap first. there is a baffle inside that rusts out over time and can cause a leak. Next I would check all the vacume lines carefully to make sure they are not cracked or let the vehicle run and use my nose to smell for raw fuel, this is another way to test the gas cap.

ok so thanks for all the help... I tapped my gas cap on a sheet of paper but no rust scale...although I did notice some droplets of gas coming off the cap when I took it off the jeep and more when I tapped it on the paper... could this be some sort of sign that my cap is bad? I checked the lines and they don't seem to be dry rotted or cracked...I'll do the nose test next and hopefully end this once and for all!
