Default Puzzling Stop Lamp Switch issue

I'll make this short. {/dad joke}

I have a 98 Auto no ABS. Pressing the brake pedal should:
1. Light up the brakes
2. Allow me to shift out of Park
3. Kill my cruise control
4. Kill my remote start

1 and 4 do not happen. 2 and 3 do. How is this possible?

#1 is dependent on the brake light switch.
#2 is dependent on the brake interlock

So, that's not so puzzling, but #3? That should be dependent on the brake light switch also.

#4 I don't know that much about...

Probably still a bad break switch. The brake interlock doesn't depend on it (as mentioned above). And I'm betting the cruise control is probably tripped off by multiple things, the brake switch just being one of them (like the torque convertor lock-up clutch does, they may even be one in the same - but I don't know).

your brake switch is a plunger type. so all you have to do is reach under, grab the end of the switch where it contacts the pedal, and pull it out. it might take a bit of effort, but it will come. it's kind of toothed to hold it in place one the pedal pushes it back in to where it needs to be.

that should get you sorted out, if it's that simple.

Looking at the FSM, the switch appears to be a 3PDT switch. One of the poles controls the stop lamps, and that's the one that my remote start is also hooked to. So it appears that part of the switch is bad but not the whole thing.

I have a new one on order since no one seems to have it locally.
