Question about bastard pack
I am planning on doing an entire new suspension in time. But with winter coming I am not going to be able to save the funds to do that before winter.
So my plan is to do a budget boost to get me through the winter. I already have front springs off a v8 grand cherokee for the front.
My question for the back is:
The leaf springs I have right now are nearly flat. Can I keep the main spring and build a bastard pack using it?
A second part to my question, If I can keep the main spring, Can I just put the extra springs off an s10 (or one of the other trucks that work) without reusing the s10 main spring. I ask because I don't have easy access to a grinder, but can get a hold of one if needed.
I am not looking for alot of lift right now, I just need to get a decent suspension for the winter, and until I have the money for a good lift next spring.

....
I do have access to a grinder if it is best to use the main spring off an s10... But if I don't "have" to use it, it would make the process a bit easier

I would use s10 springs, they are cheap and easy to come by.
Honestly the best way to determine how much lift you will net is to experiment. Try using the XJ main with two s10 leafs (not the s10 main) and the XJ over load leaf.
I used XJ main, s10 main, s10 second then the XJ overload. I netted about 4.25 inchs of lift from this setup. I was matching the rear to my RE 3.5 coils which gave me about 4.5 inchs.
The leafs are easy to take apart, I must of had three different setups before I settled on the one above. Just get fresh u bolts and spring clamps and you should be good to go.

That was I was needing to know. I would like to avoid cutting down the s10 main spring to save some time.
I am not to worried about how much lift I get, I just need new springs to help keep my wheels on the road this winter when start skiing.
I am going to replace the coils first and then just try to match how much lift they give
