Default Question on bleeding/priming all fluids

Hey ya'll. I'm on the cusp of finally finishing my 2 year long rebuild of my 2000 xj. I have a question for basically all new fluids I'll be putting in.

I'm sure it's not as simple as filling everything up, then cranking it over.

Engine oil for instance: how do I prime the oil pump up to get fluid to the valve cover instead of just turning it over dry.

Power steering: what's the best way to fill the gear box? Just hand turning the pump before the belt is on?

Trans: fill, then fill again after idling?

Top everything off after idling for a while?

Thanks for the input

I just got done changing out my transmission and torque converter(had a rebuild done). My transmission mechanic instructed me to fill with 4qts and then start engine and immediately fill with 4 more quarts. Test drive and adjust fluid as necessary. In my case the transmission, torque converter, and both my fluid coolers were void of fluid.

I've heard of assembly lube for rebuilding an engine which helps with initial startup but it's probably too late for that in your case.

I believe on the power steering you fill up the reservoir, start engine, rotate wheels back and forth lock to lock adding fluid being careful not to let the reservoir go dry.

Not sure what's the best way to do all of these other than maybe get a couple helpers to fill fluids where needed.

For the oil, I would pull the valve cover and remove the coil wire, then crank it over with the starter until you see oil squirt out at the top. Turning it over slow with the starter should not harm the new bearings unless you left grit on them. If you put oil on them before assembly that should do until the starter primes the oil pump. Some people use a drill and an adapter to spin the oil pump to prime it, but that would require pulling the distributor and having the tool to do it with.
