Question on Buying a Jeep Cherokee Limited
Hi all,
Had some questions. I am really looking into buying a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited edition. I have owned 2 Jeep Cherokees, an 88 Pioneer and an 88 Laredo. I really like the fact the Limited has a lot of options on it. It looks to be power everything seats, locks, mirrors. It even has an overhead console which surprised me for the year. I have really only seen that overhead console on the Grand Wagoneers. It looks to give you the outside temperature and the direction. Is there any other information this display gives you?
As a general question what were the standard options on the Limited for the early 90's, I wanted to test out all of the options when I see the car? Looks like it also has the Selec-Trac tranfer case which I also like. I also may have heard the limited had a rear diff with posi-traction? Does anyone know if that is true?
Thanks!

You would have to look at the code on the door plate, or if the owner has the original window sticker that could help. You could also go to the Jeep website where you can enter your vin and see what options came with the truck. It is not available for every Jeep, but you might get lucky.
You could also just jack up the rear and see by spinning.
If the Jeep is in good condition and has very little rust, it is probably a good idea to buy it. They are hard to come by like that.

Thanks for the reply!
I did actually have the VIN and was able to pull up the build sheet last night believe it or not. Doesn't look like it has Posi axle in the rear. I also saw somewhere if the vehicle had ABS then it most likely does not have posi in the rear as well. This one does have ABS. Any experience with the Selec-Trac transfer case, 4wd seemed to work good. I have always had the Command Trac transfer case?
The display in the overhead console might not be working, it was blank. I think it should be displaying the temp and the direction you are going. Does anybody know what else can display in there, it looks like you can hit a button to see other things in that display?

I would guess maybe MPGs (although historically inaccurate), maybe a couple extra trip odometers, a timer of some sort (my Cummins has a timer, but I dont know what its timing. Maybe just trip time. Maybe even engine run time, but I doubt that because it seems really low for engine operating time), obviously compass & temperature... cant remember what else is on my Rams overhead. Its an '07 so its probably not the same as a '91 jeep....
