The Napa one is borderline obnoxious. I took it off my MJ DD and put it on my son-in-law's trail rig.

But a blown head gasket is even more obnoxious

Its pretty warm where I live, about 105° today so keeping the beast cool is priority #1 for me right now

Why are you guys against cutting hood vents? I dont see any issues as the holes really arent even that big and not angled straight up neither.

My $0.02, hood is somewhat like a roof, keeps water/elements out.....don't want a hole in my roof. If the complete cooling system is maintained/functioning properly, motor temp should stay below upper limit parameters. The XJ has a small radiator but under hood ventilation is no different than most other vehicles.

You can water proof an engine, you can't water proof a house.

True DJB, but there are few cars out there still that have functional hood vents. I dont see what the difference is from hood vents letting a little water in on the engine and going thru streams. Not doubting what you're saying, but just saying//

Oh by the way I did the flush on the rad etc etc. WEll the radiator that I bought was the wrong one, yeah right hand drive... So I have to send it back, but I just kept the stock on in place. I did the flushing you said, new pump, fan clutch and termo. so when the read dies, if it ever does,I'll swap it then.

Also, I noticed when it was idling ( kinda hot yesterday, humid 80 degrees ) and the gauge read on the right edge of 210. So whats that? 212 or so? Is that acceptable?

No, I said it right the first time. With ALL electrical connections well doused in dielectric grease, snorkel, fan shut off switch, and an extension for the exhaust pipe to go near the roof line its very possible to drive through water thats above the hood. Marine Corps hummers have all these things and often drive off boats and into the beach

I'm not against anybody doing whatever they want to their XJ.....I gave my $0.02 opinion and it's worth what u paid for it.....no hood vents here.

Yes, there are cars out there with factory scoops but most of them have a somewhat elaborate system of channeling/draining away water from the motor. Post pics when you're done.

212 is not too hot.....it may run a little cooler with a new rad though.

Not hard at all, simplicity is an XJ strong point. Lot easier than putting a new roof on that under water house. LOL
