Default question on sea foaming an unregistered jeep

This site has helped me tremendously. I had to create a new account. Thanks in advance to any replies. I have a 94 zj with the 5.2 v8 that I need to smog. I bought it for 20.00$ but its costing 550.00$ to register it with dmv. It runs great. And has no noticeable mechanical issues. It has been sitting for about a year. So thought I should sea foam it before trying to smog it. I went thru hell trying to smog my 90 xj doing everything one should before a smog test. Finally the xj passed with a "0" on my emissions and that was after doing sea foam. I never had a bunch of smoke blow out, but I already did the tap water trick, and thoroughly cleaned the tb. My question is: Is it important to drive the jeep like I stole it after the sea foam procedure or can I just continue to rev the engine high in neutral or park? I ask this because the tags are bad and I have to smog it to register it. I'm not too familiar with the v8 motor, any tips on best method of sea foam for it would be nice. I have the bottle, not the spray. Or should I not sea foam it at all and just try and smog it after a fresh oil change? Thanks again.

Seafoam works best when you drive it like you stole it from my experience. I also don't recommend seafoaming it by just revving and then taking it for smog because it won't burn everything out that way. Both seafoam and fuel injection cleaner can give you higher smog numbers if unburned... You need to get it thoroughly warmed up anyways since it's been sitting and drive it to get the cat to clear out. I started taking my vehicles for a 30 min drive with as much freeway as possible on a full fresh tank of gas before smog (gets the cat nice and hot, they dont start working until they are warmed up and they store unburned fuel during warm up cycle when you run richer until it has a chance to heat up to operating temp) and saw lower numbers in the smog test in return

Go to the dmv and get a moving permit. That gives you 24 hours to legally drive the vehicle without registration or in CA it does anyways. Technically you are sup post to take it from point a to b with that but no cop ever gave a crap where i was going when i showed them the permit

I'm just 45 min. North of Bakersfield so I'm in the same strict smog lands as you are. Good point on the cat. I knew that, but wasn't thinking of it. Tried to get a day pass but the lady at dmv as a b#&%@ and is making me redo the title with previous owner. Think I'm going to add fresh gas and oil and heat up the engine and see what happens. I didnt do an oil change after sea foam, before the smog test on my xj but I did drive it for weeks prior and already had fresh oil, plugs, ect. I assume sea foam was still in the jeeps system when I passed smog. The smog tech I go to uses a 90 xj as his advertisement and is a fan of jeeps who who happens to be very nice to work with. He was surprised how good my results were and I assumed to sea foam played a part, only because it was the last thing I did before passing. Including a brand new cat and oxygen sensor. I did everything under the sun to get my xj to pass. The zj though I haven't driven it seems to run excellent. The previous owner couldn't get it to start so it sat for four months. I came over and locked/unlocked the back hatch and it fired right up. He was dumbfounded. Thank you for the input.
