Question for you guys that buy from Rock Auto
Hey, Im on their site and their prices are CHEAP! BUT.....Ive got my vehicle info in as 99 Cherokee 4.0 242 and when I search through their stuff, say distributor cap, it brings up a ton of different ones. If I click on the item number, it will say 91-97, 94-97, etc. Most of the stuff Im looking for doesnt have my year right. I dont get why I have my year in and items that dont say my year are coming up. Also, Im looking at the d-caps right now, and the first one is listed as "Economy". When I click the item number it says Cherokee 87-99 and then Cherokee Sport 90-97. What gives?

I order from them all the time. I know what you are talking about with that "extra" menu. I always order reputable parts not economy ones. I find that alot of the "cheap" parts have issues and basically you get what you pay for. If you put in your year XJ and and engine you should have no problem with them fitting. FYI- I've heard of some parts stores honoring Rockauto.com's prices if you bring them a print out. It doesn't happen in all areas. you have to check with the store. If you find one that will do that, you save yourself shipping and waiting for the parts to come in the mail.
Go with "Standard" Brand tune up parts. You'll be good to go.

Same thing in any of the parts. It was just easy to point to that because it was the first one. I just dont get why, if I put in my year, it brings up parts that arent shown as "working" with my year. Odd.

Get yourself a copy of a parts catalog for your year, available here:
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowled...ex.htm#service
(just scroll down the page a bit)
You'll be able to look up the OEM numbers, then compare them to Rockauto's alternate OEM numbers, available through the "Info" links. This will help to avoid a lot of confusion when ordering parts.
Example: The part number for your distributor cap is 5602 6876

Several parts sites have similar issues.
I have two XJ's, 95 and 96.
Both use the same part, say a distributor and the part number is 12345.
When I have #12345 on the screen and 1996 in the system it says #12345 won't fit in the 1995.
When I have #12345 on the screen and 1995 in the system it says #12345 won't fit in the 1996.
If I start out with 1995 in the system and tell it to search for 'distributor' it takes me to #12345.
If I start out with 1996 in the system and tell it to search for 'distributor' it takes me to #12345.
My guess is their systems are not as sophisticated as one would think.
I've ordere from ROCKAUTO and the parts were always correct.

I appreciate all the info, thanks a lot.
Im still having a hard time figuring out their system/catalog though.
For instance, I downloaded the XJ parts PDF and have been looking through it and searching RockAuto's catalog by number. They dont show lots of parts via the number in the XJ PDF, like shocks. However, if I search their site for shocks, they return tons of different ones. The AC Delco original ride quality shocks are listed under my 1999. But when you look at the part itself, it says it fits Cherokees from 84-01, then it says Cherokee Sport 90-97. That makes no sense to me. Either way though, their prices are super cheap if you can find your stuff. Maybe Ill call and see what the deal is.

1)Call dealership for OEM part # with your vin#
2)browse cataloge from online parts stores
3)chat or call them to confirm parts before placing an order (keep a copy of the transcript as a form of insurance, that way if the parts are wrong you can send back without paying return shipping)
4)wait patiently for the mail man

Thanks for all the info everyone. Yeah, their shipping is set up like a joke, but its not OUTRAGEOUS really, at least compared to what Ive seen elsewhere. In my cart right now I have an interior carpet, 2 leaf springs and about 6 other small parts and the shipping is $80. Ive seen shipping for the leafs alone on other sites at $50, so I dont know. But, my MIL will be coming up in a few weeks and its only $50 to ship everything to her house, so I could always do that too. Anyway, thanks again for the info.
