I am late coming in here but I would look at the oil filter adapter o-ring myself. I was SURE my rear main seal was bad since the oil was dripping out from that spot but what I discovered was that the oil was coming out from the oil filter adapter and running along a little ledge besides the motor then down the small crack between the engine and transmission and finally leaking out there! Was a major PITA changing it as on the '94 there isnt much room and that torque bolt is shallow. Finally had to take the sawz-all to the old oil filter adapter.

Haha make sure you have a T60 torx bit handy. that's what'll get the oil filter adapter off. and you can get the package of 3 o rings at the nearest dealership for a couple bucks. good luck man

Have you looked at the bolt head yet? I had a 92 builder motor that was still hexhead.

Have you cleaned the engine with degreaser to see where the oil is actually coming from yet? New gaskets sound great and all but seems to be you'd be tearing into a lot of things you might not need to and spending a lot of time and money

If the front CCV vent is not free to vent into the air cleaner, crankcase pressure can make it **** all over. That's gotta be unrestricted. Also the O rings hardening in the oil filter adapter is a common, almost predictable problem. It blows back and drips off the bell-housing, mimicking a bad RM seal. Here's a deal on that for anyone going there>

Griz, clean it and look good right away. Power steering can leak up front like that. Also trans cooling lines. Almost anything can end up dripping off the bell-housing once it's been blown all over. . Adapter O rings ARE common though. http://www.myjeepxj.com/cherokee-rep...filter-adapter

Default 90 Wagoneer Lmtd oil leak

Wow, what a helpful thread. Picked up this '89 a few months ago, has 93k miles, 4.0L, for $350 bux. Have been tackling little odds and ends since acquisition. Finally getting around to the oil leak. As recommended started out up top, tightened the valve cover down nice and snug. Looked at the oil sender unit and it looked dry. Same for the dist gasket. Gunked the motor down pretty good and its wet as hell by the rear of the pan/bell housing area. Was really concerned about the RMS being shot. Tightened up the oil pan a little and re-gunked the bottom. Now the oil filter adapter looks pretty wet so Im hoping its that not the RMS. If the weather holds this weekend that'll be the project. If that doesnt cure it then I guess I'll be studying up on the youtube video on RMS r&r. SOrry about the fat fingers typo, jeep is an '89 not a '90.

Probably the oil filter adapter seals are all that needs changing.
