Of course I go to Jeep to make sure I get the correct parts and not one o-ring is the same, 0 for 3! Had to go to autozone and get a universal type kit from the help section that probably had 20 o-rings of various sizes. 2 of those were a perfect match, 1 was close. Guess I'll be ghoing back to Jeep and see if they have something else.

Renix seals come individually from the dealer. HO come in a kit. FYI.

Save yourself time and money, 1st clean engine and look for leak.
It could be rear seal, It could be oil filter assem or oil sencer. All 3 will leak alot.
Is it dripping on your starter and going down to drain plug????

Gunked the motor down 2 or 3 times. valve cover is dry, oil sending unit is dry. Drain plug is usually wet along with bell housing area by that access plate? Even changed the drain plug gasket.

I used this page to help me dis-assemble. I can tell you this, the shaft on mine only had 1 o-ring not 2. There was 1 lg o-ring that went where the adapter meets the block. The factory 1 seemed to be more flat sided not round. The last o-ring was where the hex bolt and the cap seal up to the adapter. The one in the kit wasnt even close.

Hi, Jeep noob here, can you please explain "renix" and HO. Have seen the renix term but not sure what it applies to?

Thx,,

Renix is the name given to the Jeep engine (management) system from 1987-1990. It comes from Renault (then owners of the brand) and Bendix. It is pre-ODB and these days could be called "electronic" versus what we'd consider "computerized". Instead of a code reader you use a multimeter, and there is no long term memory. There are other differences too such as a closed cooling system and some driveline components.

The High Output engine was a Chrysler rework that appeared in 1991 model years with OBD-I ECU. A whopping 5HP increase! (torque and HP peaks were moved too). For 1996 OBD-II showed up and the engine got another rework in '97 (I believe) and was named the PowerTech.

Welcome to the site, a lot of questions have been answered already on here. You can search here on Google by adding "site:cherokeeforum.com" into whatever you look for. Also you might want to read up on forum etiquette as hijacking threads with unrelated questions is considered rude.

Cheers

Thanks for the definitions and explanations I appreciate the info. As for hijacking the thread I will apologize to the original poster. However, I have been involved in many other forums on various topics other than Jeeps and I am familiar with forum etiquette concerning hijacking a thread and in my opinion I did not hijack anything, my questions were simply an extension of the original thread including the renix question. Hardly seemed worth it to start a whole new thread just to answer that question. According to the urban dictionary hijacking means going off topic with another poster, maybe you need to take a look at that. Again my apologies to the opriginal poster if he/she feels I hijacked.

Thank You. As per cruiser 54 I ordered the o-rings individually, we'll see if that makes a difference.

I'm betting they gave you the "kit" for the HO motor.

The 2.5 engine requires the removal of the flywheel/flex plate to change its RMS, thus removing the tranny. The 4.0 RMS is accessible by removing the oil pan.

Picking the o-rings up this morning. Only problem was 2 of the 3 o-rings could be ordered individually, the third had to be ordered in a package of 4. We'll see later what I get.

Final post on this, got the individual o-rings, they look better in size. However it seems as if the adapter area is staying dry and its the RMS. Thx for all the pointers. Gonna wait till spring to tackle it.
