I know I might sound like an idiot here but what exactly do "bumpstops" do?..Mine got all corroded and fell off my Jeep years ago and I never replaced them..They seemed to be to far away from the body that they did anything so I never replaced them..I could grab some at the local junkyard any time if they are vital

I used to run bumpstop-less in my wrangler and boy was that a mistake. Every jump/bump/or flex would be followed by a "bang" in the rear (bumpstop banging on mount) and my front fenders would be pushed up from tire contact.

They stop the axle uptravel at a certain point to prevent tires from contacting fenders and prevent over-compressing / inverting springs and shocks. Without the bumpstops at the correct height, your shocks may compress fully and break off a shock mount, or your tire will rub on your fenders, breaking them off, etc.

Interesting..I`ll have to go out and take a peak once this windy snow flurries stop..It seems I recall looking under there once and it seemed the gap was so far between my stops and the axle that it seemed impossible for things to collapse far enough for them to ever make contact with each other...I can just go to the "you pick it-you pull it" junkyard any time and grab a set..I think I saw like 12 Cherokees in there last time I stopped in.

That`s probably what it is..I think the last time I looked was back when I had my 2" left blocks between the leaf springs and axles in the rear so it probably made the distance between the two look even farther apart..I took the blocks out though when I got rid of my oversized tires...I'll look into getting some bump stpos on my next junkyard visit
