I still need to get the TJ axle brackets mounted to the axle. It's painted, but just to keep rust at bay until I get the brackets welded to it and get it installed under my TJ.

to answer your qestion on the d44..
they came under mjs that had a metric 1 ton package or ordered by customer.
they came under xjs that were ordered with them as an upgrade tow package ( note not all tow packages had a d44 most had d35 with limited slip). Wagoneer limiteds with tow package had d44.
to bad you are not close I have all kinds of d44s from mjs and xjs

and with that said, i have only seen the d44 under 87 model year xj's. i have a 90 with tow package, and i did have the d35 with limited slip.
almost every 87 i've seen had the d44, and most waggy's from that era also.
i would hold out for the d44 over the 8.8. i don't like the idea of c-clips, disc brakes or not. you can always do the disc conversion on the 44.
comanche rear axles are spring under, but easy to weld on new perches.

im in hamilton ontario i have no idea how i would get that here. i dont like fords. any thing to do with them there junk. so i woould find that rear axle in a wagoneer or 87 era xj what about zj's i thought the limted ones had dana 44's. dana 60 out of what then i would have to swap out axles custom made all that is to much. the smartest way i think would be to get the biggest that bolts in with the least amount of work and up grade it the pinion on the 8.8 is not even centered with the trany. sure that dont matter but i drive 60 km/h and lock up my tires then rev it to 5 g's and drop it in smokin 35". and thats what breaks first.
