Default Rear Driveshaft fell off...

Sorry if I butcher the terms, but this is my first jeep and 4x4 and I'm learning. So I was driving today, when I gave it a bit of gas and heard a loud thunk, then no power. I looked under the jeep, and my driveshaft was pulled out of the rear diff. It looks like the clamps that hold the ujoint sheared. I know that I'll need a new Ujoint, and new clamp things, but anything else? How much wrenching am I looking at here? I'll try and get a picture or two soon, but I'm away from the jeep atm.

Thanks!

Im not sure. The yoke is the "cradle" that holds the u joint to the rear diff right? I fairly certain that broke too at least that what it looked like to me.

yep it accepts the u joint to the diff

its only held in there with one nut

the end of the driveshaft is fine?

do you have 35 or 8.25 for rear axle?...youll need the right yoke for the right axle

sounds good to me. Also check your driveshaft and make sure it's not damaged.

the pinion yoke replacement will involve checking lash within the dif.

This will require some specialized tools and knowledge to do properly.

the nut holding the yoke on the pinion gear is vital to bearing preload. Google "replace rear pinion yoke" and read up.

That was at least 18 years ago, you better make sure it's still there.

Luv this at least it let loose and didn't turn the drive shaft into a pretzel, lol, we all live & learn. Post up some pics of the carnage and we'll help you fix it.

so i took a look at it this morning, and the yoke is still fine, and the driveshaft is all good. all that it need are new straps and a new ujoint, a along with drilling out the broken bolts in the yoke.

Go genuine Spicer u joints that are greasable. And actually grease them
