rear driveshaft out of balance?
i took my rear driveshaft off of my 94 XJ to change the ujoints, and i marked the ends so i could put it back together the same way but i ****ing dropped it at one point and totally lost my mating mark. so im not sure if i put it in the EXACT way it came out. i've read conflicting info on this, but is my DS unbalanced now?

Just put it together, put it in and see. You want the yoke in the same position on each end

That would depend on how much it is out of balance. Drive it some more and see what you think

If your still not sure after driving it a bit remove the rear driveshaft. Put it in 4H and drive it. Definitely proved I had a driveshaft angle issue. No vibrations w/o the rear shaft.

I believe the FSM shows a procedure of attaching a hose clamp to each end of the driveshaft, and rotating them gradually to see if that effects a change in vibration
The weight of the screw section apparently must make a difference
If you are concerned, and dont wish to faff about, one can have ones driveshaft balanced by a pro for not many $

ok i'm confused now... I took a picture beforehand and i can see that when i put it back together with the new u-joint, i flipped the yoke going into the transfer case 180 degrees. HOWEVER, the yokes on both sides are 'aligned' now (that is, oriented the same way on their...revolution axis? i dont know how to explain it properly, the yoke ends near the transfer case and the rear axle are in the same position.) So now i'm wondering if I should take it apart and put it BACK the way it was, or if I inadvertently balanced it??? Damn. Any ideas?

Yes, putting it back the way it was would be helpful right now. You have a stock slip yoke drive shaft, right?

Yes i have the stock. everything was running smooth prior to removal so it's best i just put it back the way it was. Won't be so hard, just gotta get that new u-joint out again. Thank you for helping me figure this out
