Adjust the brakes? Is the system completely bled properly?

Have you bled the master cylinder right at it's fittings?

You replace the two fittings on the master cylinder with fittings with nipples on them. You run a tube from each of those to the reservoir. Keep the ends of both tubes submerged in brake fluid at all times. Depress the brake pedal once and ease off. Repeat until there are no bubbles in the tubes. Remove the bleeder fittings and thread the brake lines back in. Bleed the system normally afterwards.

Thats how i have always seen it done on the vehicle. And cover the inner fender with shop rags or whatever as brake fluid eats paint.

Quick and easy way.
Have someone pump the pedal and hold. Crack loose the fitting on the brake master. Close it. Do it about 3 times.
Do the same on the other fitting. Listen/watch for air/bubbles.

I had to look up to see if both master cylinders where the same for both years... yup, both had 15/16" bore-diameters. So, that's a non-issue. So yup, start bleeding master cylinder, then re-bleed both wheel cylinders. If you let the MC run too low, you may have to re-bleed the front calipers too. This not only gets any air out of the lines, but any contaminants, like moisture that will rust the inside, or particles that can clog or block the lines.

Are your shoes clean, or did you get fluid or other contaminants on them? Are the drums clean and true? What brand and grade of shoes did you install? Did you adjust the shoes properly on each backing plate? Do you feel resistance in the driveway using your parking brake only? Are the shoes and hardware installed properly, or is there debris or obstructions inside the drum?
