Look in the glove box of possible xjs, it'll have sticker for the lsd requiring the friction modifier. But depending on budget, you can look at www.aussielocker.com I have 2 in my Tacoma, don't even know they are there.

LSD was an option on all 3 axles that came in XJ IIRC, 44 may not have had them. There will be an extra tag on the diff cover that is held on by the bolts that says to use a friction modifier. If you find one plan on replacing the clutch pack since they tend to wear out and will work just like an open diff.

alright thanks for the info. have you ever run D44's? detroit lockers? just seeing what would be a mid range for overall price, daily driving practicality and strength...
know that the D35s are not really worth putting lockers in because the axle shafts are something but 1.16 inch and usually break? PLUS i also read that they have c clips to hold them on and if you break them the entire wheel, drum assembly comes off.
I'm basically better off finding another rear end to put lockers in correct?

Good luck finding an appropriately sized D44. Look for a 29 spline 8.25. Almost as strong as a D44 and available everywhere. The downside is that the trac-lock LSD that comes in them is a total piece of crap, look into getting a mechanical locker (powertrax is a common one) that will fully lock the axles when necessary.
