Don't know if you already changed the fluids yet but I would say go with Royal Purple, I use the max gear 75-90 in the front and rear of mine. Also whatever fluid you go with, if your gonna go through some deep puddles, make sure your vents are secure, and i wouldn't hurt to extend then either. Oh and buy a fluid transfer pump from your local parts store, it makes everything soo much easier, you dont need to take off the covers.

I just wanted to let you guys know that in my haynes manual that the transmission ax-15 and ax-5 calls for a 75W90 gl-5 and the computer at my work calls for a 75w90 gl-3. The gl-3 has been superceeded by the gl-4 and the book calls for a gl-5! After talking with a few guys it seems that the only difference in the gl3 and gl4 is the gl4 is mineral base and the gl3 is more of an oil base. If you have worked on the newer v-dubs then you know that the power steering fluid is a mineral base and can not use a conventional ATF or regular PS fluid. The GL-5 has more of a sulfer content than the other 2 fluids and right now all I can see is that they are all close to the same thing.
NO.................................
No GL-5 in a AX-15.... NEVER, DON'T EVER DO THIS....
The sulfur attacks the bronze synchros in the transmission. GL-4 will work. but NEVER GL-5

Yeah. if you like to remove the cover to clean it out, you can buy one of those pumps at advance/autozone/napa that screw onto the fluid container. They pump the fluid from the container to the diff.

That's funny because my haynes manual says to use the GL-5 but after searching more I found that the sulfer content is the problem. I'm going to change out my fluid ASAP. I would have posted this information earlier but I was in Denver all weekend.

Well today I went around to all of the parts stores in town and none of them carry a GL-4 gear oil. They only carry GL-5 and GL-4/GL-5 fluids. What am I to do.

shoot just head to your local parts store they will have something..I bought my axle refiller for like $10 and a pump that fits on the big 5 qt tranny jugs for pumping fluid back into the t-case...wrap em in a bag to keep dirt off and put em on the shelf.
