Thumbs up REAR HATCH FIX

I just bought a 99 xj 4.0 on monday had same problem had to crawl in.... Take of panel and there is a little clip that hold the actuator that goes up and down in place it is probably not in.... Press it in and tighten the little clip so it hugs the actuator.... Let me know if this helps it did for me....

There are a lot of recent threads on this, but the idea basically is to crawl in back, gently pull off the rear liftgate inside cover under the center of the rear window, and reach your arm down in there to un-do the mechanism. I have to do mine this way tomorrow.
