Rear hatch with button won't open on a 96 Cherokee
I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee.
The rear hatch suddenly stopped opening. It's the kind with the keyed button, not the latch.
Unlocking it with either the key or the power lock didn't help. I've also exposed the mechanism in the back, but I can't figure anything out.
There's a lot of information floating around about the latch kind, but nothing about this.
Any help would be appreciated.

Fix for rear hatch
This is my fix for a common problem. The clip that retains the ringed shaft fails and the lever will not work the hatch -- This is my fix: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f59/wh...8/#post3721355
