Default Rear main seal sealant?

What have you guys had success with? I've changed mine out twice with loctite 518 and each time I replace the seal it looks like there was never any sealant on the seal....I got high temp red rtv but what have you guys used?

Not sure what youre referring too, Ive never used a sealant on the rear main seal itself. Just tapped the old one out with a brass punch and put the new one in. Now if you are referring to the pan gasket I highly recomend a good gasket, the metal inpregnated rubber one piece kind. I can never get the cheap 4 piece cork crap to seal.

The DIY write ups I've read say that your suppose to apply some sealant on a few points of the bearing cap with the seal in...iono if what I'm using isn't good enough and is the reason my rms keeps leaking

Loctite 515 or equiv. I believe 518 is close enough. Here's a pic of where/how to apply the bead. Good luck!

So your not suppose to apply a small amount of sealant on the bead itself?

Definitely NOT.. and the lips of the seal should be facing the front of the engine.. just in case
