You will not notice any measurable difference in body roll. I can take a picture of how small the rear is compared to the front one. The front one is the important one. if it is stock leave it on, if it is lifted remove it.

It is a toaster oven on wheels! Its an xj. Have u seen one? Ya its a box. The higher u go the more it feels like it. Sway bars are taken off to improve flex. In the front it makes a big diff in the rear with leaf springs not so much. The lift is making the diff. U could fabricate some disconnects but unless u tow every day it won't make a diff. U can keep them on but it won't improve much if anything.

I'd suggest getting quick disco's at min if they are available for the rears. Its a safety thing, and if your kid, or someone else's kid will be driving it, I'd want to make sure it was as safe and predictable as possible. Especially if its their first Jeep, and lifted at that. Its not a Corvette, as already stated, these trucks don't handle like most vehicles. If you've been driving one awhile, you can forget it sometimes.

the rear really doesn't do much since you're on leaf springs, now take off the front one and drive it and you'll notice. They don't make any way to retain the rear one that I know of after a lift. You'd have to rig something of your own but then why lift it. If you got where you wanted all 4 on the ground and was in a wash or up on rocks you'd have to disconnect 2 sway bars. Don't worry about it

after lifting a XJ the rear is worth absolutely nothing. Take it off, you won't notice the change. Just make sure you put a longer brake line on it (rear from a 96 dakota works great) if you plan to wheel it at all.

side note, from my understanding if your xj had a tow package it never came with the sway bar anyway, mine did not have one atleast

Then BAM!! about 6 months ago it dawned on me that it had to be the rear sway that had been mounted there. Yeah, I can be pretty stupid some times. It only took me about 8 years to realize ...
So in answer to your question: not much noticeable difference, if any. But I don't know if you'll trust my perception ... after all ... (see above )
Edit: Mine is a Limited with tow package & you could see where the bracket was - before I painted it.

Since it is ur kids xj and u worry about him u could make a disconnect set up with ur stock rear sway bar really eazy. Just cut the vertical round stock of the sway bar in the middle. Then find some tubing that slides over it snugly. Cut the tube to the length of ur lift 3" or 4.5" whatever. Slide that over each of the 2 halfs u cut and drill a hole through each side of the tube about a half inch from the end. Then find some pins to go through like ones bought with a kit for a front sway bar disconnects. Repeat on the other side. Its a wast of time but its ur kid and if it helps u sleep at night then that's just what a parent has to do some times.
