Rear turn signals on very dim and somewhat flickering. Jeep is shut off...
This just started or at least I just noticed it early this AM. The rear amber turn signals are "on"...the car had been sitting for probably sixteen hours. Albeit very dim, it's bright enough to see and sometimes flickers. I started the Jeep and cycled the turn signals and messed with the flasher switch. No change. I pulled the flasher unit, no change. This is very odd.

It's not that odd. It's a 23 year old car that lives up north with rusted grounds. Always start by checking/cleaning grounds.

It certainly suggests something is grounding through the turn signals, but what? Also curious that it affects both the same - if I correctly understand scenario OP is describing.

I'll have my first go at diagnosing this today. What I find odd is that as the right and left turn signals have their own connectors on each side, how are they on and flickering in unison.

9 volts at the right turn signal connector before it goes into the lamp. I also noticed that when, with the keys out of the ignition, I turn the turn signal stalk to activate the left or right signal, the dim light disappears. I'm slightly convinced that this is an issue with the turn signal switch in the steering column. Grounding appears to be fine. Time to throw the parts bomb at it.
And yes - that is a non-rustable Amazon bag to cover the hole down there...

I can confirm, with confidence, that the issue was the turn signal switch. I replaced it with a Standard Motor Products DS-988 and for the last week it has worked great. No issues with the bizarre yellow-lights-on-dim anymore. Installation took me about 15 minutes. Be patient so you don't break anything. Lots of wiggling required to loosen the top cover of the steering column in order to get to the two top screws of the metal bracket that hold the turn signal and wiper stalk units in place. The 200,000 miles on the old girl took a toll on the OE switch. Case closed.
